Education Resource Unit

The Education Resource Unit (ERU) contributes in various ways that enable the State and Community to provide quality education to children, adopt a targeted approach in planning and implementation to effectively address residual issues and gender gaps, and also equip to maximize on the available resources. With the support from a strong technical group, ERU provides the space and environment for facilitating discussions/piloting on experiences of strategies and interventions implemented/being implemented by the Government agencies, corporates and NGO sector for the promotion of quality education.
The Education Resource Unit is run by a core team of professionals and experts, with following wings:

  • Log on wing:The Log on wing works on connecting education experts, professionals, practitioners to organisations, ideas and professionals within/outside Orissa and bridge the gap between policy, programmes and practices. This wing also works closely with government departments and civil society networks to influence policy, programmes and processes.
  • Research wing:The Research wing works with the skills of gathering information and developing critical analysis and thought process. The wing is supported by professionals in creating data analysis and surveys, comprehensive reports, training manuals, pilot projects on issues and topics through theoretical and field-based research to bring in perspectives and knowledge to HDF’s work as well as the work of state agencies to achieve the MDG goals.
  • Technical wing:The technical wing works with varied skills and technology for the collaborative agencies to translate their visions into mediums. This wing conceptualises and brainstorms on the possibilities, potentials of different/alternative mediums and creates an approach for programmes/ projects for the collaborative partners.
  • Facilitative wing:The facilitative wing works extensively with an issue/ pilot projects with collaborative agencies and technical wing to maximise the results.

Collaborative Organisations & Collaborations:

The HDF-Education Resource unit has entered into collaborative partnership with Pratham-Mumbai initiatives in promoting reading writing skills - particularly Choice, Communication and Conversation among school going children. The unit is extending the research and technical support to Pratham –Orissa team in accelerating the reading programmes in 25 districts of Orissa.
To make the rights of the child to quality school education, The HDF-Education Resource unit has entered into strategic partnership with Centre for Civil Society, Delhi in promoting rights to quality school programme– particularly in back up research and technical support in piloting the programme in few rural and urban setups in Orissa.
HDF-Education Resource unit is actively collaborating with Education Watch, Orissa and its technical support in developing a community monitoring of education programmes and state’s achievements on MDGs in the state.

  • Analysis of education schemes: Govt Provision & implementation:  A reality
  • Analysis of data / studies: 3 studies-Per child cost in Bhubaneswar urban, Koraput, Gajapati & Mayurbhanj, PPP model : background studies and developing an operational strategy
  • Establishing a dynamic information resource base: Education information and management kiosk
  • Developing modules, Training kit for ISRO supported VRC-VSAT programme
  • Development of draft Plan of action on quality education & PoA on disparity reduction for state of Orissa- facilitating  a UNICEF-Govt of Orissa initiative
  • Establishing training & resource centres at Koraput, Balesore and Gajapati in partnership with local administrations/ corporate and Civil society groups
