Health for All - All for Health

The Health Unit is a facilitating platform for building quality human resources at appropriate levels and intellectual leadership contributing towards an environment that will support policies, plans, approaches to ensure Health for All.

The HRU is run by a core team of professionals and experts backed by a technical group with extensive experience in the field of health and allied activities in Orissa and outside. The piloting strategies and innovations are being supported by critical learning-by-doing practices. The general principle followed by the unit is a learning-action-learning cycle.

Base Paper on Health Challenges in Odisha

A base paper was prepared by the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for highlighting key Health issues and challenges in Odisha. It gave a comprehensive account on overview on health scenario of Odisha pertaining to 3Ms, viz. Malaria, Malnutrition and Mortality. The Base Paper was circulated amongst the senior Health Experts and Specialists and academicians, which was highly appreciated and on the basis of suggestions a State Level Consultation was planned.

State Level Consultation on Health Issues in Odisha

The state level consultation was organized on health issues in Odisha at SC and ST Research cum Training Institute (SCSTRTI) Conference Hall, Bhubaneswar on 3rd April 2008 to discuss, deliberate and initiate appropriate intervention based on the common understanding to improve the health conditions of the state. In this workshop representatives from Civil Society organizations, UN agencies, government institutions and INGOs had participated.

As an outcome of the State Level Consultation, it was decided to bring out a comprehensive document on “State of Health in Odisha” by the Health Unit of cDAR. The Document is getting published by HDF and will be available in market in the month of November 2008.

Rapid Appraisal of Health Interventions (RAHI)

The Technical Expertise was provided to conduct a study on RAHI. The study was sponsored by National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW), New Delhi.

Observation of World Population Day-2008

In order to create awareness and disseminate information on issues relating to population and development Human Development Foundation (HDF) with the support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) observed the World Population Day (WPD)-2008 in Balangir district of Odisha on 11th July 2008. The theme was “Family Planning- It’s a right, let’ make it real”. The various advocacy events organized on the day included of conducting essay competition among school children, rally and public meeting for the WPD-2008 occasion.

Community Monitoring of Health Services under NRHM

Mr. Sudarsan Das, Dr. Almas Ali, Dr. M. K. Mohanty and Mr. Basudev Panda of HDF are the members of the State Advisory Group on Community Action (SAGCA) under NRHM in Odisha and are involved actively in developing understanding of the Phase-I of community monitoring process in Odisha.

Baseline Survey on Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) among Adolescent Girls in Ganjam Block of Odisha supported by PFI, New Delhi.

Health Unit is currently undertaking a baseline survey for a intervention project supported by Population Foundation of India (PFI), New Delhi to Multi Applied Systems (MAS), Bhubaneswar on "Increasing awareness of and access to contraceptives for married adolescents, awareness on Reproductive and Sexual Health and Reduction of Iron Deficiency Anemia among Adolescent Girls of Ganjam District of Odisha".

Odisha Bikash: Discussion and Action Forum on Health

The Health Unit is currently facilitating a discussion and action forum on health involving key actors; the state government, UN/ International agencies, leading NGOs academicians and civil society. The objective is to find out ways for the meaningful and rapid implementation of health programmes, assuring quality and addressing specific challenges and issues.

Management of PHC (N) under Public Private Partnership

HDF in partnership with Karuna Trust, Karnataka has been entrusted by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha to manage and further improve six Primary Health Centers (PHC-New) in Ganjam District of Odisha. HDF has its own doctors and paramedical staff including ANMs, Pharmacists, and Lab technicians.
