Ubuntu Philosophy
Ubuntu's work is driven by a philosophy on software freedom that aims to spread and bring the benefits of software to all parts of the world. At the core of the Ubuntu Philosophy are these core philosophical ideals:
1.Every computer user should have the freedom to download, run, copy, distribute, study, share, change and improve their software for any purpose, without paying licensing fees.
2.Every computer user should be able to use their software in the language of their choice.
3.Every computer user should be given every opportunity to use software, even if they work under a disability.
Our philosophy is reflected in the software we produce and included in our distribution. As a result, the licensing terms of the software we distribute are measured against our philosophy, using the Ubuntu License Policy.
When you install Ubuntu almost all of the software installed already meets these ideals, and we are working to ensure that every single piece of software you need is available under a license that gives you those freedoms.
"A person with ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed."
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Why HDF
The key to a developed society are the empowered individuals and institutions. In the context of backward regions in India, there are numerous academic and research institutions to facilitate such a process. Unfortunately, most of the graduates they produce lack the aptitude, understanding and competence to work for the socio-economic development of the backward regions.
The research work undertaken often does not help policy development and implementation. The structure and systems of such academic and research institutions are unable to effectively meet the needs of the current dynamic environment.
Human Development Foundation (HDF), an initiative by a group of young professionals, envisages bridging this gap through its twin wings- Academic Programme (AP) and centre for Development Action and Research (cDAR).
The Academic Programme wing offers quality education in Management Studies, Development Studies, Engineering, Vocational Trades, Micro-Finance and Social Sciences.
The Development Action and Research wing undertakes programmatic interventions to focus on Education, Community Health, Livelihoods, and Governance. Its activities are to be supplemented by research and action programs to set up model institutions and demonstration projects involving traditional and emerging opportunities; and to develop enabling policies.
Both the wings are linked with each other by a two-way flow of resources in the form of knowledge, technology, finance, personnel and competence.
